Vitaly Ignatiev met with the EU delegation

The building of the Government and the Supreme Council of the PMR hosted a meeting of PMR’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vitaly Ignatiev with the European Union delegation headed by Thomas Mayr-Harting, the Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia in the European External Action Service.

The Pridnestrovian side focused on the inadmissibility of establishing joint customs-border control by Moldova and Ukraine at the border with Pridnestrovie at the Kuchurgan BCP. During the detailed discussion of the problem, Vitaly Ignatiev emphasized that the project of joint Moldovan-Ukrainian control, despite the declarations of the Moldovan side and some other international participants, does not have any advantages in either the economy or freedom of movement. On the contrary, according to the Pridnestrovian Foreign Minister, calculations by field specialists confirm exclusively negative effects of the joint control introduction in all spheres, including security.

The diplomat paid special attention to the fact that plans to establish joint Moldovan-Ukrainian control were not discussed with Pridnestrovie. Moreover, as noted by Vitaly Ignatiev, neither the Moldovan side nor the European partners are willing to listen to the arguments of the Pridnestrovian side, which testify to the possible escalation of tension in the entire regional space, as well as the guaranteed negative consequences for the residents of Pridnestrovie.

In this context the Foreign Minister stressed that it would not be possible to ‘hush up’ the destructive nature of joint control plans, and even more real consequences of its introduction. Vitaly Ignatiev also said that the Pridnestrovian side sent a message to all foreign ministers of the EU countries, as well as the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, about the inadmissibility of organizing joint control of Moldova and Ukraine at the Kuchurgan BCP with detailed information on the possible destructive consequences of its implementation.
