On the Visit of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Special Representative Ambassador Andrey Deshchitsa to Pridnestrovie

Today, on April 24 a.c. Deputy Chairperson of the Government for International Cooperation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Nina Shtanski met in Rybnitsa city with delegation of the OSCE Mission to Moldova chaired by the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Special Representative Ambassador Andrey Deshchitsa. The event was also attended by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova Sergey Pirozhkov, the Head of the Public Administration of Rybnitsa district and Rybnitsa city Tatyana Turanskaya, and the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Jennifer Brush.

In the frameworks of the visit parties examined the aerial ropeway (funicular) which is on the books of the Public Administration of Rybnitsa district and Rybnitsa city. The diplomats stressed urgent character and a high social value of resolution of the situation around the object because this funicular is laid directly over 18 dwelling houses. Participants to the meeting came to a consensus concerning its dismantling.

Pridnestrovian side made a number of proposals on this issue, which are reflected in the respective document draft. Further definition of the issue will be held today at the meeting of the Political Representatives of Moldova and Pridnestrovie in the OSCE Mission's premises in Kishinev.

The meeting of the parties at the building of the Public Administration of Rybnitsa district and Rybnitsa city was followed by a press briefing where Nina Shtanski said, “We have no slightest disagreement concerning dismantling of this hazardous cable car.” She expressed concern about unsafe living of Rybnitsa residents under such a hazardous facility. “We are interested in the implementation of the project allowing dismantling of the funicular,” Andrey Deshchitsa said during the briefing.

Pridnestrovian Foreign Minister thanked in return the Ukrainian side for its active participation in resolving the situation. “We are pleased that the international community stands ready to render not only methodological assistance but also to seek international donors,” the Minister said. “This issue is very expensive, and we can not carry out the dismantling of the funicular on our own under current economic conditions.”

The sides expressed the hope that the common decision to dismantle the aerial ropeway in Rybnitsa will be taken at a joint meeting of the Political Representatives of Pridnestrovie and Moldova which will be held today at the OSCE Office in Kishinev.
