On the Meeting between Political Representatives of Pridnestrovie and Moldova

Today a working meeting between political representatives of Pridnestrovie and Moldova Nina Shtanski and Yevgeny Karpov took place at the Embassy of Ukraine in the RM upon an initiative of the Pridnestrovian party. The meeting was attended by Sergey Pirozhkov, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova, Farit Mukhametshin, Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova, Jennifer Brush, Head of OSCE Mission to Moldova, William H. Moser, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Dirk Schuebel, the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, and other representatives of participants under the “5+2” format.

The meeting was focused on arrangements to the next negotiation round in the format of “Permanent Conference” to be held on February 18 a. c. in Lvov. Arrangements of the meeting between Yevgeny Shevchuk, the President of the PMR, and Vlad Filat, the Prime-Minister of Moldova, were also under discussion. Agreement on the eventual meeting on the sidelines of the“5+2” format in Lvov was reached during the recent visit of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Leonid Kozhara to Kishinev and Tiraspol.          

Nina Shtanski commented for press on results of the working consultations. According to her, issues on freedom of movement were peaked during the meeting. “We would like to pay more attention to the freedom of movement at the meeting of our leaders and not to limit it to highway transportation,” political representative of Pridnestrovie told. Giving constructive evaluation to the meeting she noticed that parties could achieve a particular progress while discussing the draft of the Protocol Decision “On Some Primary Measures to Provide Freedom of Movement for Population of Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova.” “Pridnestrovian party expresses great optimism concerning signing of this protocol,” the Minister concluded.         

Referring to the prospects of the eventual meeting between Yevgeny Shevchuk and Vlad Filat in Lvov, Nina Shtanski said that now political representatives of the parties have a task “to charge the meaningful space of this meeting with the content.” “Today, we have outlined the proposals to be exchanged in detail in coming days. I think that during our next meeting we will have a comprehensive view of the agenda character,” Nina Shtanski said. She specified that the meeting of leaders shall be possible if the political representatives of the parties manage to prepare settlement of specific issues that could be signed by Yevgeny Shevchuk and Vladimir Filat.

The Head of the Pridnestrovian diplomacy stressed that upcoming meeting of the leaders of Pridnestrovie and Moldova should be a continuation of the dialogue on the social and economic cooperation between two states which was successfully initiated in January 2012 in Odessa under the mediation of Ukraine.

The agenda of the eventual meeting of the “Permanent Conference” shall be agreed by parties. Nina Shtanski emphasized that there is a large number of issues concerning foreign activity of Pridnestrovian enterprises is still unsettled. The Pridnestrovian party also intends to continue discussion of other issues on social and economic relations, including a set of Pridnestrovian proposals relating to establishing effective environment for socio-economic cooperation.
