Today the PMR's MFA hosted a meeting between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Igor Shornikov and Head of the Confidence-Building Measures Division of the Directorate for Political Advice and Co-operation of the Council of Europe Anna Capello.
As it was noted during the meeting, Pridnestrovie has developed constructive partnership relations with the Council of Europe. In particular, a number of projects have been implemented, such as projects in the sphere of media capacity building and the civil sector, projects regarding higher education institutions, cultural heritage protection and enforcement of human rights. Igor Shornikov highlighted the projects designed to improve the quality of medical care in penitentiaries and aimed at inclusive education development. The Deputy Minister also positively evaluated the CoE's willingness to assist the Pridnestrovian side in implementation of recommendations formulated by Thomas Hammarberg, the UN Senior Expert on Human Rights in Pridnestrovie.
Anna Capello, in her turn, noted that the purpose of her visit was to review the projects and events, being implemented in Pridnestrovie. According to her, the Council of Europe is exploring possible areas of interaction with Pridnestrovie and is working on the work programme for 2015.
During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed possibilities of the CoE to assist in the settlement of pressing issues of the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova, such as legalization of Pridnestrovian education documents and forced documenting of Pridnestrovian citizens by the competent authorities of the Republic of Moldova.
Concluding the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation on a wide range of areas of mutual interest.
