Vitaly Ignatiev meets with a Pridnestrovian citizen politically prosecuted by RM’s authorities

12/10/15

On December 9, 2015 in the framework of the working visit to Moscow Acting Foreign Minister of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev met with citizen of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic politically prosecuted by the authorities of Moldova Maksim Kuzmichev.

Earlier, on July 20, 2015, in Athens member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the PMR M.G. Kuzmichev was arrested on account of putting him in the international wanted list by the Republic of Moldova. As you know, these steps are taken by the Moldovan side as a means of exerting pressure on Pridnestrovie by massively bringing politically motivated criminal charges under far-fetched pretext against the authorities, representatives of the business community and citizens of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.

On December 1, 2015 the judicial authorities of the Hellenic Republic took a reasoned decision based on a broad argument and evidence base to refuse the extradition of the member of the MIA of the PMR to Moldova, after which it was officially released.

As a result of obviously illegal and legally unfounded actions of the Moldovan authorities that grossly violate not only the existing agreements of the negotiation process, but also the international norms for the protection of individual rights and freedoms, the Pridnestrovian citizen actually was forced to spend four months in prison.

During the meeting with M.G. Kuzmichev the head of the Pridnestrovian diplomacy had an opportunity to learn first-hand in details about the features of detention and imprisonment of the Pridnestrovian militiaman, about the trial, the nature of actions of the Moldovan side and other significant aspects.

They discussed concrete measures aimed at protecting the rights and interests of the citizen of Pridnestrovie.

Taking into account the fact that a number of citizens of the PMR because of deportations and other restrictive actions by the Republic of Moldova are forcibly outside the republic, the task of activating cooperation to address the problem at the level of political representatives of the parties and relevant expert groups gains particular urgency and relevance.

The Pridnestrovian side in the framework of existing mechanisms of the settlement process will continue to insist on the need for an early resumption of the practical work to ensure the guaranteed termination of politically motivated criminal cases initiated in Moldova against officials, entrepreneurs and citizens of Pridnestrovie.
