Having taken the Abkhazians under its protection, Russia provided them with a possibility for peaceful and onward development

Exactly one year ago, on August 26, the Russian Federation acknowledged the state independence of Abkhazia. On this holiday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie has sent a message of congratulation addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, which reads:

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia and addresses its congratulations on the occasion of the first anniversary of the republic's independence recognition.

The history of Abkhazian statehood, which numbers more than thousand years, comprises periods of great victories, impressive achievements and courageous struggle for preservation of the originality and culture of the ancient nation. Throughout many years Abkhazians, playing important role in the political and spiritual life of the Caucasus, have been claiming their right to live on the native land, protecting it from numerous outside threats.

Revival of Abkhazia's independence, which took place in the post soviet period, let people begin their life anew. Defending its free choice, republic went through the pain of war, hard time of struggle for liberation from Georgian aggressors, period of economics and destroyed infrastructure restoration in the context of permanent blockades.  Self-belief and loyalty to their traditions, firmness and public consent made it possible for the Abkhazians to overcome the most severe trials.

August 26 of 2008 – a day when the Russian leadership made a historic decision to acknowledge Abkhazia's sovereignty – has become a natural result of a long and uneasy way. Hiving taken the Abkhazians under its protection, Russia provided them with a possibility for peaceful and onward development.

Presently, a new bright period of active creation is settling in the life of Abkhazia, when the boldest and most grandiose projects, which are likely to reveal the great potential of the country, are being brought to life. Pridnestrovie sincerely shares with brotherly nation the joy of this holiday and confirms its readiness for close cooperation for the sake of our common principles and ideas.  On this high day, we wish you peace, well and prosperity, further success in the work on strengthening the country's foreign policy positions. We are sure, close and constructive cooperation between our institutions, based on Treaty of friendship and cooperation between the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and the Republic of Abkhazia, will develop consistently serving the cause of peace strengthening and stability for the benefit of our people.”
