The PMR’s MFA hosted a meeting between Foreign Minister of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev and Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Michael Scanlan.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister of the PMR stressed the inadmissibility of unilateral actions by Moldova and Ukraine such as installation of joint control on the Pridnestrovian border. “The statements that have been made in the process of opening the post in Kuchurhan confirm the purely political nature of this measure. We count on the support of international partners in preventing deterioration of life of Pridnestrovian people due to this discriminatory step” – noted Vitaly Ignatiev.
The conversation focused on the current situation in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova. Vitaly Ignatiev confirmed the position of the Pridnestrovian side on the inadmissibility of further artificial slowdowning of activities of the “Permanent Conference...” in the 5+2 format and importance of an early official meeting in this format. The Foreign Minister of the PMR has noted that while Moldova continues to take unilateral measures against Pridnestrovie it is counterproductive to present some pre-agreements as a precondition to meetings in the international format.
“Unfortunately, now the sides cannot come to an agreement on their own: there is no incentive for the Moldovan side to move along the path of compromise. In these conditions, we need support of our international partners, including the OSCE. We look forward to a constructive transparent position of the Organization on this issue” – said the diplomat.
In this context, Vitaly Ignatiev encouraged the OSCE representative to initiate the meeting at the “Permanent Conference...” level to discuss topical issues on the agenda in full compliance with the Principles and Procedures of the Negotiation Process.
