The Exhibition of the Swedish Royal Armoury and Special Cancellation of the Pridnestrovian Stamp Will Take Place in Bendery

The Exhibition of the Swedish Royal Armoury will be opened in the Bendery fortress on February 2, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. Presentation and special cancellation of the Pridnestrovian postage stamp dedicated to the 300-th anniversary of presence of Charles XII of Sweden in Bendery will be held at the same place.    



These events have been arranged by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in the Republic of Moldova together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the PMR, the State Service for Communication, Information and Mass Media, GUP “Marka Pridnestrovya” (Postage Stamp of Pridnestrovie State Unitary Enterprise) supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR.



Reference: the 1-st of February, 2013 will be marked by the 300-th anniversary of the so-called “Kalabalyk in Bendery” - the armed conflict between the guards of King Charles XII and janissaries. By order of Sultan Ahmed III the King of Sweden had to be taken from Bendery to Adrianopol. The Turks have succeeded only after a severe eight-hour fight. This event is prominently in the historical literature. The Turkish word “kalabalyk” has become naturalized in the Swedish language.
