Public-Expert Council under the MFA of the PMR Discussed Economic Aspects of the “Eurasian Region Pridnestrovie” Project

A session of the economic section of the Public-Expert Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic was held today at the Pridnestrovian Foreign Service. The meeting was focused on discussion of economic aspects of the “Eurasian Region Pridnestrovie” Project implementation.

Necessity to find paths of economic interaction between Pridnestrovie and states across the Eurasian space as the main scope of expert work at the first stage was stressed before during the project presentation on February 26 a. c. at the MFA of the PMR. Today interlocutors changed their views on contents definition of the project.

According to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Igor Shornikov, “The “Eurasian Region Pridnestrovie” suggests the possibility of providing its members a number of preferences to promote their own products, free trade arrangements, facilitation of labour migration, etc. At the same time the “Eurasian Region Pridnestrovie” is not only a lifeline for the country, but also a good opportunity for other areas to find new markets for their products.” During his speech the diplomat reminded about “Eurasian Region Pridnestrovie: integration in the Customs Union” international conference to be held in Kiev in April a. c. It should be mentioned that this conference was initiated by Andrey Tserne, Chief of the Expert Council under the Interfractional Group of the State Duma of the RF. He particularly expressed the view that the conference “shall attract the attention of leading experts and practitioners in the field of economics and shall be the first practical step towards economic integration of Pridnestrovie in the space of the Customs Union.” According to Igor Shornikov, Pridnestrovie should come up to this conference with concrete proposals and mechanisms for implementation of the economic component of the “Eurasian Region Pridnestrovie” concept.

Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Yuriy Ganin expressed support to the initiative of the Pridnestrovian Foreign Service. “Idea of creating Eurasian region is unique; it has no analogues, so the concept must be built ab initio. In this regard, we are the pioneers,” he said. The representative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry believes that Pridnestrovie has to pass from words to deeds now, simultaneously searching the ways to implement the concept. Preliminary steps should be following: to conceive issues for each group of enterprises requiring shift from West to East upon the sector principle, to determine the stages of the shift, and to clarify the role of the state in this process. “Enterprises are willing to participate in the marketing reorientation, but they can not take all the losses resulting from its implementation,” Yuriy Ganin said explaining his position.

Another initiative within the meeting was dedicated to the establishment of a corporative structure that could assist promoting of Pridnestrovian goods at the Eurasian market. Pridnestrovian diplomats expressed their opinion that such an initiative as well as other ideas voiced during this event will be studied and elaborated at the interdepartmental level involving foreign experts.

The meeting was resulted in decision to submit proposals of members within the economic section of the Public-Expert Council with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR for further activity in this sphere.
