After the meeting in the Foreign Ministry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev and the Ambassador at Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergey Gubarev visited the Pervomaisk checkpoint. The diplomats discussed with the customs and border officials of the Republic the current regime of the checkpoint operation, as well as possible effects of the Moldova and Ukraine’s establishment of joint control at the Kuchurgan BCP in the territory of Ukraine.
During the conversation representatives of relevant agencies informed the Russian diplomat that the Pervomaisk BCP functions in a stable mode and fully provides for free movement of citizens, cargo and vehicles across the border. Along with this, officers at the checkpoint effectively suppress any actions that contradict with the PMR’s legislation. In the framework of the dialogue, the interlocutors also drew attention to the fact that the EUBAM whose representatives are also stationed on this section of the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian border regularly records absence of smuggling through the Pervomaisk and Kuchurgan checkpoints in its reports. According to Vitaly Ignatiev, this circumstance once again confirms inconsistency of arguments of the Moldovan side on the need to establish joint Moldovan-Ukrainian control.
During the visit to the Pervomaisk checkpoint, the diplomats together with the relevant officers went up the observation tower on the territory of the BCP, gaining an opportunity to visually inspect changes in the infrastructure of the Ukrainian Kuchurgan checkpoint.
The event was followed by a brief meeting with representatives of the Pridnestrovian media, where Sergey Gubarev confirmed the position of the Russian side on the need to discuss the problem of joint Moldovan-Ukrainian control within the framework of the existing mechanisms of the negotiation process.
