Nina Shtanski: “Unexplained position of Moldova paralyzes the possibilities of the OSCE as a mediator in the “5 + 2” format”
These were the words of the Head of the Pridnestrovian diplomacy at a briefing on the results of the another regular meeting with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Radojko Bogojevic.Today the PMR's MFA hosted a meeting between Deputy Chairperson of the PMR's Government for International Cooperation, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nina Shtanski and Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Radojko Bogojevic. Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Michael Scanlan participated in the meeting as well.At the initiative of the Pridnestrovian side, using the method of “shuttle diplomacy” Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Radojko Bogojevic these days made several visits to the region of the conflict, alternately visiting Tiraspol and Kishinev. We would like to recall that previously the Pridnestrovian side had asked him to transmit to the Moldovan partners our concern on issues which caused considerable tense in the field of freedom of movement and economic interaction. In her greetings today Nina Shtanski expressed gratitude to the guests for accepting the proposal of the Pridnestrovian side. “I am grateful for you that you have found the opportunity to meet with officials from Pridnestrovie, being subjects of repression and politically motivated prosecutions by the Republic of Moldova – the meeting will be held today. We regret, however, that within the framework of your visit you have not found the opportunity to visit farms of Pridnestrovie, which are in a difficult situation due to the fact that Moldova unreasonably does not issue certificates for them,” said the Minister.“We believe that the problem of a Pridnestrovian scholar or the problem of a Pridnestrovian farmer is the problem of all the “5+2” participants. This format is based on the documents, which stipulate obligations and responsibility for their implementation, responsibility for the welfare of those people who live in the region of conflict”, she said at the meeting, thereby reaffirming position of the Pridnestrovian side on the need to involve all participants of the “Permanent Conference” in the resolution of existing problems between the parties. However, during the meeting the Pridnestrovian side has not managed to clarify the position of the Moldovan partners. The mediator said that the concerns of the Pridnestrovian side were transmitted, but the reaction to the questions asked was not received. As stated by Nina Shtanski during the talks with journalists after the meeting, people in Pridnestrovie are outraged by such an irresponsible approach of the Moldovan side and believe that it paralyzes the possibilities of the OSCE as a mediator in the “5+2” format. Let us recall that the pressure on Pridnestrovie by the Republic of Moldova not only continues, but has increased recently, as reflected in dozens of new politically motivated criminal cases against officials of Pridnestrovie, including the Chairperson of the Government of the PMR. Thus, the holding official posts in Pridnestrovie is now considered by Moldova as a criminal offense, which has already led to the disruption of the regular “5+2” meetings.Moldova actively added more economic restrictions to its repressions by refusing to provide the Pridnestrovian products with Moldovan certificates, which makes delivering goods to Russia through the territory of Ukraine impossible.“It is clear that the progress in this area cannot be achieved in the near future. In this situation we will use the tools of direct and more intensive dialogue with the Russian Federation – a guarantor country in the settlement process and our strategic partner”, emphasized Nina Shtanski.
