Today, the PMR’s Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Moldova Ulrike Maria Knotz.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to Germany for its active participation in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova in 2016 when Germany was chairing the OSCE. In this context, Vitaly Ignatiev said that German diplomacy managed to identify clearly a list of serious problems in relations of the parties and give some impulse to the dialogue, which, however, “faded away soon”.

“Over the next six months we have not been able to hold a meeting at the level of the 5+2 format. Nevertheless, there are good developments such as the Berlin Protocol. I am confident that Germany’s experience will be useful for the Austrian Chairmanship” – said Vitaly Ignatiev.

In her turn, Ulrike Knotz emphasized that the attention of Germany to the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova remains high and expressed interest in further open communication with the Pridnestrovian side on all issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the prospects of bilateral cooperation in trade and economic sphere, including in continued work on building the optimal trade mechanism of Pridnestrovie and the European Union.
