The PMR’s MFA hosted a meeting of Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev and Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Philip Batson. The British diplomat at the completion of his mission paid a farewell visit to Pridnestrovie.
During the meeting the sides discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda. Vitaly Ignatiev expressed gratitude to Philip Batson for the attention shown by the British side to Pridnestrovie, stressing readiness to assist in addressing some significant problems in relations between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova. In return the guest informed the Pridnestrovian side on further continuing implementation of the projects carried out through the British Embassy.
Commenting on the current situation in the dialogue between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova, Vitaly Ignatiev elaborated on some results of the Conference on Confidence Building Measures in Bavaria of July 12-13. In particular, the diplomat noted that the event clearly showed a real willingness of the parties to resolve the urgent problems in the negotiation process, as well as again confirmed the lack of a real political will on part of the representatives of the Moldovan’s side to conduct a compromise-based and substantive dialogue with Pridnestrovie.
The Head of the PMR’s MFA also focused on new unilateral actions by Moldova and Ukraine, aimed at limiting the railway delivery of imports of Pridnestrovian economic entities. During the meeting, Vitaly Ignatiev stressed out that the complicated importing of excisable goods to Pridnestrovie, including fuel and lubricants, threatens the economic security of the Republic. According to the diplomat, the problem requires an early solution at the negotiating table with the participation of international mediators and observers.
At the conclusion of the meeting the interlocutors agreed to maintain direct contacts on any issues of mutual interest.
