Meeting with Japanese Scientist Takes Place in the PMR’s MFA

On March 16, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the meeting of Deputy Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev with Shigeo Mutsushika, Professor of Graduate School of International Relations and Director of the Wider Europe Research Center of the University of Shizuoka in Japan, and Professor Megumi Suezawa.

In the course of the meeting, the sides discussed issues concerning foreign policy of Pridnestrovie at the current stage, as well as those directly relating to the settlement of the Moldova-Pridnestrovie relations. In the interview to the journalists, Shigeo Mutsushika marked that his visit was connected with the growing interest of Japan as a potential member of the UN Security Council, as well as of Japanese scientific community to the problems connected with the Black Sea Region, Pridnestrovie including. He also characterized this as an opportunity to talk to the political elite and learn how they see the future of Pridnestrovie. The Japanese scientists were also interested in the process of the change of the Republic's management team which took place after the election of the new President Mr. Yevgeny Shevchuk.

Deputy Foreign Minister of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev specially emphasized the importance of the given meeting. “Contacts of this kind make it possible for the foreign policy office of Pridnestrovie to specify position of separate international actors. We are also interested in the position of the scientific community of leading world countries regarding all aspects of the settlement process,” the diplomat noted.

Vitaly Ignatiev also stated that Pridnestrovie tries to enhance its relations in expert and scientific area and welcomes when researches from the states which are not directly involved in the process of settlement arrive in the Republic.

Vitaly Ignatiev expressed his assurance in that the objective information about Pridnestrovie will be presented in information space and on the pages of authoritative scientific publications of other countries.
