Vitaly Ignatiev and Oleg Serebrian Held a Meeting

03/28/22

A meeting of political representatives from Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova Vitaly Ignatiev and Oleg Serebrian took place today at the office of the OSCE Mission in Tiraspol.

During the meeting, issues requiring prompt resolution in the relations of the parties were discussed, primarily those of the detention of Pridnestrovian cargo and the activities of the PMR’s particular industrial enterprises, as well as issues related to the Berlin Plus package. In particular, the matter of import through the territory of Moldova of medicines needed in Pridnestrovie was addressed. Considering the special situation, specific parameters of interaction were fixed in order to prevent interruptions in medicines supply, including those that are not registered in Moldovan State register. It was agreed to continue the dialogue and clarify technical aspects at the level of expert (working) groups involving representatives of pharmaceutical importing companies.

Due to the non-constructive position of the Republic of Moldova, the long-standing problem with the import of blanks for Pridnestrovian license plates, as well as portable radios blocked at the Kuchurgan checkpoint since December last year, remains unresolved. Vitaly Ignatiev urged to minimize any delays with fuel, food or equipment import to Pridnestrovie.

The impediments to the functioning of the JSC Moldovan Steel Works were separately raised. The Pridnestrovian side stressed that the unfounded bans for the scrap metal import should be promptly lifted to meet the needs of the enterprise. In this regard, the complete openness towards interaction in the field of ecology and environmental protection was pointed out.

Furthermore, a negative trend was noted regarding the Republic of Moldova's attitude to arranging the meetings of expert (working) groups, as field experts dealing with customs cooperation, transport development and economy have failed to convene this year, despite the invitations sent by the Pridnestrovian side. Attention was focused on the need to step up expert-level efforts in these and other areas, including banking activity, law enforcement and telecommunications.

The Pridnestrovian side called on the Republic of Moldova to the speedy implementation of the previously signed agreements from the Berlin-Plus package, including paragraph 5 of the Protocol Decision on Land Use in the Dubossary District regarding the termination of criminal cases.
