Today Tiraspol saw an open lecture on the tuberculosis problem. Today, Dr. Jaap Veen, an independent tuberculosis control consultant held an open lecture on “Health Without Borders” in the auditorium of the T.G. Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University. The event took place within the framework of educational course «Knowledge is GREAT», implemented by the British Embassy. Health Minister Tatiana Skrypnik, Deputy Foreign Minister of PMR Vitaliy Ignatiev and Deputy Head of British Embassy in the Republic of Moldova Emy Sherwood attended the lecture.
During the two-hour lecture, the expert revealed a number of important problems faced by the international community in maintaining an adequate level of people's lives and health, and also modern approaches to health protection. In particular, the lecturer was devoted to “public healthcare” concept assuming overall interest in the prevention of health risks of citizens contrary to absolutely institutional approach to mass disease problems. In the course of the lecture, the expert expressed his opinion that any conflict negatively affects the healthcare service, therefore community and politicians need to pay special attention to it.
The lecture was followed by a seminar on “Tuberculosis is not a verdict” held for students, young specialists and experts in the area of medicine, health care, internal affairs and human rights.
