“25 years of independence of Pridnestrovie: challenges and prospects”: at the Pridnestrovian State University

The International Scientific Conference “25 years of independence of Pridnestrovie: challenges and prospects” took place at T.G. Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University (the PSU) today. The event was attended by Deputy Director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies, Director of the Centre for Studies of neighbouring countries Tamara Guzenkova, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the PMR Mikhail Burla, Deputy Prime Minister of the PMR Vitaly Ulitka, Acting Deputy Minister of Education Irina Levitskaya, Rector of the PSU Galina Sandutsa, Pro-Rector for Research and Scientific Relations of the PSU Elena Bobkova, as well as public representatives and invited experts.

Deputy Minister Dmitry Palamarchuk voiced an address of welcome on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic for International Cooperation, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Nina Shtanski to participants and guests of the conference.

 “Pridnestrovie is approaching its 25th anniversary having considerable experience in foreign policy activities, the purpose of which has always been and remains the international recognition of the republic. A quarter-century later, the foreign policy of Pridnestrovie continues to be an effective tool for the protection of the interests of the inhabitants of Pridnestrovie. It always aims to ensure their right to free development and self-realization, involvement of the inhabitants of Pridnestrovie in the international dialogue. In the context of current challenges Pridnestrovie continues to strictly adhere to the principles of international law, bases on the need to maintain friendly relations with neighbouring Ukraine and Moldova, as well as to develop friendly relations with all members of the world community,” - the message of the minister reads.

 Representative of the Russian Institute of Strategic Studies Tamara Guzenkova in her address to the conference participants highly appreciated the role of the intellectual potential of Pridnestrvie which ensures stable development of the country. “It is this invaluable resource that has allowed Pridnestrovie to prepare on its own grounds and to suggest versatile educated professionals for responsible posts, to meet the demand of the young republic for  qualified experts,” - she said.

In the course of the discussion Pridnestrovian scientists and experts presented their reports on the various stages of the establishment of the Pridnestrovian statehood, the place of Pridnestrovie in the modern world community and the prospects of development of the republic. In particular, the position of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in contemporary political realities was analyzed by Head of the Chair of Political Science and Political Management of the Institute of History and Public Administration Ilya Galinsky. Head of the Chair of National History of the Institute of History and Public Administration Nikolai Babilunga outlined the place and role of the Pridnestrovian statehood in today's multipolar world. Docent of the Chair of Russian history of the Institute of History and Public Administration of the PSU Pyotr Shornikov evaluated the role of inter-movement of Moldavia during Moldova-Pridnestrovie armed conflict.

Summing up the International Conference, its participants noted that the existence of Pridnestrovie and its sustainable progressive development in such complex and difficult regional foreign economic conditions would be impossible without internal cohesion of Pridnestrovians combined the best traditions and foundations of the past with an adequate understanding of contemporary social realities. Experts stressed that over a short period by historical standards Pridnestrovie has been able to achieve significant progress both in the development of its own statehood and in the process of forming a unique model of nation-building: the multinational people of Pridnestrovie regardless of ethnic and linguistic origins remains faithful to the chosen course towards independence.
