On November, 24 2011 a meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR V.V. Yastrebchak and co-chairman of Narodny Sobor V.E. Homyakov was carried out.
In the Institute of Dynamic Conservatism a roundtable on the topic “Pridnestrovien problem: historical background, contemporary situation, prospects. Russian factor and position of the RF” with the participation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovien Moldavian Republic and his accompanying persons was arranged. Co-chairman of Narodny Sobor V.E. Homyakov was among the participants of roundtable.
Guests from Pridnestrovie set forth their well-reasoned position on bilateral relations and on geopolitical role of the PMR as “the outpost of Russian civilization” on western frontiers. Today 160 thousand of Pridnestrovien citizens (every third) have the second – Russian – citizenship (120 thousand have Ukrainian citizenship), Russian culture and traditional Russian system of education are dominant.
Overwhelming part of Moldavian population agree to “let the PMR go”. Their principal objective is to unite with Romania, to enter the European Union and to gain access for Moldavian workers to European labor market. However, the West does not need Moldavia without “Russian” Pridnestrovie, where the majority of enterprises is situated, Russian troops, which NATO is eager to send away, are stationed. Apparently, according to position of Russian leadership, Russia wants to “sacrifice” Pridnestrovie in order to “drag” Moldavia to Eurasian Union, which is being created. Later the discussion with the participation of such competent experts as V.M. Falin (former chairman of board of Novosti editorial agency (NEA), head of International Department of the CPSU Central Committee), M.D. Demurin (former high-ranking official of European Department of MFA) and others was carried out.
Almost all the participants of roundtable consider that relations with strategic ally Russia-the PMR – can not be a token coin in bidding with Moldavia and the EU. Moreover, it is comprehensive support of the PMR and its integration in reconstituted “post-Soviet territory” that can become the decisive factor and for Moldavia to join the union. But, generally speaking, united Europe does not need Moldova. Crude intervention of Kremlin into the election process in the PMR received extremely negative evaluation.
After the completion of roundtable bilateral meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR V.V. Yastrebchak and co-chairman of Narodny Sobor V.E. Homyakov took place. Development of mechanisms of “people's diplomacy”, acknowledged to urge governments on taking right strategic decisions, in particular in relation to the PMR. In the framework of this process V.V. Yastrebchak endorsed the idea of creation of Narodny Sobor of Pridnestrovie with its posterior entrance to international Council movement, which aim is to assist integration processes on post-Soviet territory. He also expressed readiness to familiarize with this project the Pridnestrovien leadership.
The arrangements on bilateral informational exchange also were made. The idea of visiting the PMR by combined delegation of Russian public organizations, which stand up for the idea of integration and development of bilateral relations, was endorsed.
