The Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting of Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the PMR for International Cooperation - Minister of Foreign Affairs Nina Shtanski with Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Michael Scanlan.
While welcoming Nina Shtanski noted that after a rather long pause in the process of normalization of relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova, the current month has become quite eventful. “The consultations with representatives of Ukraine were held recently, today – with a representative of Russia. The meeting of the political representatives of Pridnestrovie and Moldova is scheduled to be held in the “1+1” format tomorrow. This intense work, I confess, inspires us. In this context, increased attention of you, as the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, to this process, of course, inspires a great respect,” – the diplomat said. She noted that a conducive and supporting platform was created through the constructive work of the OSCE Mission for a dialogue between the parties.
Nina Shtanski emphasized that the negotiation process is a big, both bilateral and multilateral work. “This is primarily meetings of political representatives, the work of the expert groups and other elements of the “shuttle diplomacy”. We are pleased that our counterpart – the political representative from Moldova on Pridnestrovian settlement has already been appointed in Kishinev. We hope that the personnel changes will give a positive impetus to our work in the negotiations,” – the minister noted.
In his turn, Michael Scanlan confirmed the readiness of the OSCE to provide support for meetings of expert field groups, “1 + 1” meetings which should lead to further dialogue in the “5 + 2” format. “I think that 2015 can be the year in which concrete steps will be taken for the benefit of the population on both banks of the Dniester,” – the diplomat said.
During the meeting, Nina Shtanski and Michael Scanlan discussed a number of organizational issues related to the upcoming meeting of political representatives in Kishinev, as well as some aspects of bilateral cooperation of Pridnestrovie and the OSCE Mission.
