The Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev with the delegation of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in the Republic of Moldova led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Signe Burgstaller.
Welcoming the guests, Vitaly Ignatiev highly appreciated the Swedish side’s desire to develop contacts with Pridnestrovie. “I expect that we will further expand cooperation in such important areas as socio-humanitarian and cultural cooperation,” the Foreign Minister said.
In the course of the discussion, the interlocutors exchanged views on a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda. They focused on joint implementation of humanitarian projects in Pridnestrovie under the auspices of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and several relevant UN agencies. It was, in particular, about projects aimed at supporting people with disabilities and people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as counteracting violence against women. At the meeting, Vitaly Ignatiev expressed his hope for further development of cooperation and assistance of the Swedish side in implementing important social and humanitarian programs.
The interlocutors touched upon the current situation in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova. In particular, the Pridnestrovian Foreign Minister stressed that it is important for the parties, as well as international mediators, to make the necessary efforts to maintain positive momentum in the dialogue and achieve further progress, including within the framework of implementation of the Vienna Protocol provisions.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain direct contacts on the whole range of topical issues of mutual interest.
