“Pridnestrovie is in favour of the continued presence of Russian peacekeepers” is the title of the latest edition of interview given by PMR's President Yevgeny Shevchuk to RBK-TV in which the Head of the state among other things marked that peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie is one of the most successful in the world. “Hypothetical withdrawal of Russian peacekeeping forces will mean that Pridnestrovie will remain face to face in conflict environment with the Republic of Moldova. Moreover, if we recall that since 1992 Moldova in this conflict has been supported – and not only verbally – by the Romanian state, then at the new stage we can hardly imagine which consequences this scenario may lead to,” President of Pridnestrovie told.
According to Yevgeny Shevchuk, “to dismantle the peacekeeping operation or encourage its dismantling until all negotiations are completed and political status is determined, is in fact to create prerequisites for the start of hostilities”. “Some aggressive circles inside Moldova have the desire to solve rapidly, as they call it, the Pridnestrovian problem,” the Head of the state told. At the same time, he pointed out that Russian citizens residing in Pridnestrovie and Pridnestrovians in general support the continued presence of the Russian group of forces. “If by virtue of any unclear circumstances someone will intend to withdraw Russian troops from Pridnestrovie, then the Security Zone will have Pridnestrovian and Moldovan peacekeepers who will uphold interests of their countries,” Yevgeny Shevchuk underlined.
