Acting Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev is making the working visit to the capital of the Russian Federation. On March 15, 2016 he met with Leonid Slutsky, a Head of Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian integration and Relations with Compatriots of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
The two sides discussed in detail the current situation around Pridnestrovie in the context of existing challenges and threats posed by the increasing pressure from neighbouring countries. Particular attention was paid to the existing restrictions on trade, freedom of movement of citizens and vehicles, railway transport, as well as the inadmissibility of the organization of the joint Moldovan-Ukrainian control at the checkpoint “Kuchurgan”.
The meeting participants agreed on a series of simultaneous measures aimed at stabilizing the situation primarily within the framework of bilateral cooperation in trade and economic sphere. In particular, Vitaly Ignatiev enlisted the support of the Russian parliamentarian for some joint activities during IV Pridnestrovian Investment Forum planned to be held on May this year.
Special attention was paid to discussing some promising steps to intensify the cooperation between the two countries in the expert and information sphere.
At the initiative of Vitaly Ignatiev the sides touched upon the current situation in the peacekeeping operation conducted under the auspices of the Russian Federation on the Dniester. The interlocutors reached an understanding on the need for an expert roundtable at the platform of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, dedicated to the issue of development of practical tools of organizational, informational and other support for the unique peacekeeping mechanism.
