Lectures on Security Issues Were Presented in Tiraspol

Representatives from a number of authorities listened today to topical lectures delivered by the Russian Institute of Strategic Research (RISI) at the Palace of the Republic. Presentations were made by Vladimir Kozin, Adviser to the RISI Director and Associate Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Vladimir Novikov, Deputy Head of the RISI Centre for Defence Studies, and Sergey Ermakov, Chief of the Section for Regional Security Issues of the Centre for Defence Studies at the RISI. Speakers addressed to the problems of nuclear terrorism, touched upon aspects of European security strengthening and revealed features of the approach of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on European and global security. During the lectures researchers also voiced their own opinion on the current peacekeeping operation on the Dniester. For reference: The Russian Institute of Strategic Research (RISI) is a large research and analytical centre established by the President of the Russian Federation. The RISI is focused on information support of the Presidential Administration, the Federation Council and the State Duma, the Security Council, the Government Office, ministries and agencies. The RISI provides expert appraisals, recommendations, draws up analytical materials for the above structures. The RISI deals with issues of national security, the study of Russia's relations with other countries. It analyzes and forecasts trends in the political and socio-economic processes at the global and regional levels; explores ways of preserving strategic stability in the new geopolitical conditions and evaluates strategic risk factors considering how to address the crisis situations that threaten global and regional stability. The Institute pays great attention to the fight against terrorism, counter the falsification of history within the post-Soviet area. Scientific and analytical work at the RISI is performed by Research Centre of Near Abroad Countries, Humanitarian Research Centre, Centre for Asia and the Middle East, Centre for Economic Research, Centre for Euro-Atlantic Studies and the Centre for Defence Studies.
