Leadership of PMR\'s MFA Takes Part in Solemn Events Dedicated to 67th Anniversary of Tiraspol’s Liberation from German-Romanian Invaders

On April 12, Tiraspol marks the 67th anniversary of the town's liberation from German-Romanian invaders. Today, the Pridnestrovien capital saw the flower-laying to the Memorial of Military Glory and solemn meeting dedicated to this historic date.

Participating in the event were President of the PMR Igor Smirnov, members of the Cabinet of Ministers, deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic, Tiraspol's management, veterans of war, members of political parties and public organisations of Pridnestrovie, clergy, citizens of Tiraspol and guests of the city. Among those who arrived to congratulate the citizens were, in particular, official delegations from Tiraspol's twin cities – Ternopol, Kherson, and Nikolaev. From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR involved in the solemn events were Deputies Foreign Minister Sergey Simonenko and Vitaliy Ignatiev.

Delivering his speech at the meeting, Head of the Government Igor Smirnov stressed the exceptional meaning of the commemorated event in the history of Tiraspol. Entry of divisions of the 37th Army of Ukrainian Front to the town marked the end of the Romanian-Fascist occupation which lasted 974 days and caused death of more than four thousand of town dwellers. “Thousands of Tiraspol dwellers resisted the hated enemy sabotaging its activities, joining partisan units and fighting in clandestine groups, and later raising the city destroyed by the occupants from the ruins. Tiraspol citizens will always remember the heroic deed of those who gave their lives for their Native Land, who brought freedom to our land,” said President of the PMR. He pointed that preservation of historical memory and care about veterans will always be one of the priorities of the state policy of Pridnestrovie.
