Today, with the assistance of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, about four tons of used-up batteries were withdrawn from the territory of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. Prior to that, they had been centrally stored at the Moldovan GRES (State District Power Plant), and at the EcoPMR volunteer environmental organization.
The withdrawal procedure took place with the Moldrec participation, Moldova’s specialized organization to deal with subsequent battery sorting and transportation outside the Republic of Moldova for further recycling.
Note, Pridnestrovie has no designated capacities to recycle the above batteries, resulting in the need to withdraw them abroad with international assistance. The PMR’s Foreign Ministry expresses hope for the withdrawal project to become annual, given the fact that the average number of used-up batteries reaches several tones per year.
The Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministry thanks the OSCE Mission to Moldova for the financial and technical support for the project.
