The routine removal of ionizing radiation sources from Pridnestrovie took place on August 21-22, 2019.

214 ionizing radiation sources were removed from institutions and enterprises of Tiraspol and Rybnitsa.

The removal was facilitated by the Republican Centre for Hygiene and Epidemiology, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other competent authorities of Pridnestrovie with the participation of representatives of the OSCE Mission and relevant agencies of the Republic of Moldova.

The sources were removed in accordance with the Protocol Decision On Procedure for Removal of Ionized Radiation Sources Located in Pridnestrovie dd. March 14, 2012.

Pridnestrovie lacks facilities for storing decommissioned equipment (level gauges, density analysers, smoke detectors, etc.) containing ionizing radiation sources. In this regard, radioactive materials shall be transferred for long-term storage to Moldovan special facilities. To date, about 2,400 various radioactive sources have been removed from Pridnestrovie.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue its systematic interaction with foreign partners, providing for the implementation of humanitarian projects that are important in terms of protecting public health and the environment.
