The Foreign Ministry held a meeting with European Union representatives, led by Head of the European Commission’s Directorate General Department for Trade Petros Sourmelis. From the European side the meeting was also attended by Head of the EU Delegation in Moldova Pirkka Tapiola. From the Pridnestrovian side - acting Foreign Minister of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev and Economic Development Minister of the PMR Dmitry Boltrushko.
The meeting discussed aspects of practical implementation of the agreement reached in October last year on maintaining the optimum regime of Pridnestrovian enterprises’s exports to the European Union markets. In particular, the sides exchanged views on how to overcome a number of risks connected with Moldova’s unilateral actions, complicating foreign economic activities of economic entities of the republic.
Welcoming the guests, Vitaly Ignatiev highly appreciated the dynamic and positive nature of contacts with the Directorate General for Trade, established in recent years. The head of the Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministry noted in this regard that the agreement reached in 2015 on parameters of trade with the European Union helped to keep social and economic stability in Pridnestrovie and to prevent negative effects in the social sphere.
“We believe that the existing trade regime is quite favourable, effective and will fully meet the interests of economic agents. We also expect that, despite certain negative aspects of the Moldovan side’s unilateral actions, trade and economic relations between Pridnestrovie and the European Union will develop in a positive way,” the diplomat noted.
At the end of the meeting the sides agreed to maintain contacts on matters of mutual interest in the context of interaction in trade and economic sphere.
