The meeting of Acting Foreign Minister of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev with Head of the UNICEF Representative Office in Moldova Nune Mangasaryan was held at the PMR Foreign Ministry. Taking part in the meeting was Chairperson of the Coordination Council for Technical Assistance Galina Sandutsa and UNICEF Deputy Representative Margarita Tileva.
Welcoming the guests, Vitaly Ignatiev emphasized the high level of cooperation with UNICEF and expressed gratitude for the implemented initiatives on the Pridnestrovian issue. “The results of the joint work done are really impressive, and it is expressed, first of all, at a practical level. We are grateful to UNICEF for its attention to the problems faced by Pridnestrovie, and the readiness to cooperate through the specialized agencies, including the health care system,” said Vitaly Ignatiev.
Nune Mangasaryan shares the positive assessment of the results of joint work noting that there has been a significant advancement on a number of areas of UNICEF activities in Pridnestrovie. “We note with great satisfaction the improvements in the field of obstetrics, maternity and childhood support. To date, we can say with full confidence that the practical training of those working in Pridnestrovian hospitals is at a high and modern level,” said UNICEF Representative. According to her, it has been possible to achieve a very significant success in the field of immunization.
During the meeting the sides discussed the plans and future directions of further cooperation. In particular, Nune Mangasaryan said that UNICEF activities in the near future will be focused on continuing programmes on protecting motherhood and childhood, promoting healthy nutrition of children, as well as promoting the de-institutionalization of trusteeship system of Pridnestrovie.
At the end of the meeting Vitaly Ignatiev said that the cooperation with UNICEF to date distanced from political issues to the right degree and is aimed at systematic and effective work that by the Pridnestrovian side's opinion, is very important in the context of difficult foreign policy situation. The Head of the PMR MFA also expressed hope that the cooperation with UNICEF will have new forms in the future and will receive an additional impetus for the expansion of the capacity to work together on topical areas.
