On August 30, 2010, Bendery hosted solemn events dedicated to the regiment festival of the 55th Podolsk Infantry Regiment of the Imperial Russian Army which had been positioning in the town for more than a hundred years.
The activities started at the Military and Historical Memorial Complex. In front of the colonnade unveiling of the monument to Count Grigory Potyomkin of Tauride took place.
Addressing participants of the opening ceremony, PMR's President Igor Smirnov told Transdniestria reveres the memory of its ancestors since “Russia and Pridnestrovie share the same historic fate and common plans for the future.”
Then, a procession was held from the memorial to the monument of the Russian Military Glory, upon which those who were engaged in the event laid flowers at the foot of the monument.
Also, installation of the dome cross and consecration of the bell tower took place on the territory of Bendery fortress in the currently restored Alexander Nevsky Church, which was in different times visited by two Russian emperors.
