A meeting was hosted by the Foreign Ministry between Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the PMR for International Cooperation, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nina Shtanski and Representative of the World Health Organization in Moldova Jarno Habicht who concludes his mission.

During the meeting, Nina Shtanski has highly appreciated the work of Jarno Habicht in his current position and noted that the cooperation between the WHO and Pridnestrovie with his active involvement has reached a qualitatively new level.

“I am pleased to note that the cooperation is developing in the most sensitive and topical areas: strengthening perinatal care and maternal health, supporting the processes of immunization of people. Health workers in our country were encouraged by your assistance in improving the skills of medical staff. With your participation, on the one hand, the reform of the health system has been realized and those modern standards of medical care which you share with us have been adopted, and on the other hand, the assistance to those who implement these standards has been provided,”- stressed Nina Shtanski.

The Foreign Minister noted that the work of the World Health Organization in Pridnestrovie is felt in many areas. “Maternity homes in Tiraspol, Bendery, Rybnitsa are equipped with the latest technology now. At present, new mothers and women in labour can be provided with a high-tech emergency assistance which could not be provided three to five years ago in the country”, - said the diplomat.

Jarno Habicht said, in his turn, that the cooperation between the WHO and Pridnestrovie has especially intensified over the past years. “Today we have had a meeting with the leaders in the field of health care and we have stated that the ideas that we discussed few years ago have become a reality today. And in five to ten years, when we look again at what will have been already done in that time, we will see a lot of changes that people will soon begin to feel. I believe that even now we have created a very good basis for the further development of this sector,” - said the WHO representative.

“It is important for us that people applying to the hospital for help be assured that the doctors, medical staff and their methods of work conform to international practices. The results that the WHO and Pridnestrovie were able to achieve when cooperating for several years, it takes decades for other countries.”, - he concluded.
