Today Kishinev hosted a meeting of President of Pridnestrovie Yevgeny Shevchuk and Prime Minister of Moldova Kiril Gaburich. Views were exchanged on a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
In his welcoming remarks, the President stressed the need for “seeking a compromise at the negotiating table and sticking to a pragmatic approach to the problems”. Moldovan Prime Minister Kiril Gaburich expressed the hope that the meeting will be one of the first steps in resolving the existing issues.
Today, the parties signed an Additional Protocol prolonging the Protocol Decision “On the Principles of Resumption of a Full-Scale Freight Railway Communication through the territory of Pridnestrovie” until December 31, 2016. We remind the first agreement on the resumption of railway communication was reached on March 30, 2012.
During the meeting, one of the key issues was an early settlement of the problem of politically motivated criminal cases. The Pridnestrovian side underscored the need for synchronous decisions in that area on the “all to all” technology. “It is impossible to negotiate when whipping up a spiral of criminal prosecution. Such actions may lead to a worsening of the situation,” – stressed the president. Yevgeny Shevchuk also proposed to restore the interaction of law enforcement bodies of Pridnestrovie and Moldova, given the unstable regional situation.
The meeting discussed issues related to the restoration of a direct telephone communications between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. The Pridnestrovian side also voiced an initiative to return to the consideration of the issue on mutual retransmission of television channels.
Attention was paid to the issue of functioning of the Romanian schools located in Pridnestrovie. The PMR’s President urged the Moldovan side to seek urgent solution to the issues related to the taxation of employees of these schools.
In addition, the Pridnestrovian side proposed to organize a special discussion of participants of the “Permanent Conference” in an informal format to discuss the attitude of the participants to fulfillment of the obligations in the framework of the basic documents of the negotiation process, as well as the specification of guarantee mechanisms.
Political representatives of the Republic of Moldova and Pridnestrovie were also given instructions to go into the issue of simplified procedures of crossing the Pridentrovian-Moldovan border during the Easter holidays and days of pray for the dead.
The sides noted the constructiveness of today's discussion.
