President of Pridnestrovie Yevgeny Shevchuk received the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France Pascal Vagogne. Taking part in the meeting from the Pridnestrovian side was also Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the PMR for International Cooperation, Minister for Foreign Affairs Nina Shtanski.
“We are pleased to welcome you in Tiraspol. We have always had good relations with the French Embassy. Various projects in the field of culture and education were implemented: a Center was opened at the university. Pridnestrovians who study French are grateful for the opportunity to communicate with native French speakers”, - said the President of the PMR.
Yevgeny Shevchuk told foreign diplomats about the current state of the economy and the situation in the social sphere of the republic. The main theme of the dialogue was discussion of the settlement of Moldova - Pridnestrovie relations. In particular, they talked about the initiatives that Pridnestrovie had made during the negotiations in the “5 + 2”. According to the President of the PMR the Pridnestrovian side’s proposals have great potential.
Yevgeny Shevchuk and Pascal Vagogne exchanged views on trade and economic processes in Pridnestrovie, including in the context of the difficulties arose in connection with the continuing unstable situation in Ukraine, as well as the restrictive measures on the part of the Republic of Moldova. “We are interested in the development of trade and economic relations which is possible if the existing restrictions are removed. The common priority in the negotiations is to continue the tactics of “small steps”, in which the free movement of people, goods, services and capital remain an important part and the main part of the agreed negotiating space,” – noted Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the PMR for International cooperation, Foreign Minister Nina Shtanski.
At the meeting the Pridnestrovian side stressed the importance to maintain good neighbour constructive relations with the partners both in the Republic of Moldova and in Ukraine.
Yevgeny Shevchuk thanked the Ambassador of France in Moldova for the interest shown in the problems of Pridnestrovie. Hope was expressed that the first-hand information will be brought to the Central Office of the French Foreign Ministry.
"France is involved through the European Union in the negotiations in the “5 + 2” and is interested in stability and improvement of the situation. I saw the openness, desire to find a way for the development of economic and commercial relations by removing existing barriers,”- said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France in Moldova Pascal Vagogne after the meeting with the President of the PMR.
We remind that Pascal Vagogne was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France in Moldova in September, 2014. Today he had his first official meeting with President of the PMR Yevgeny Shevchuk.
