Today, the international scientific conference “the Moldovan ASSR: 90 years of the first republic on the Dniester”. The event was organized by the T.G. Shevcheko Pridnestrovian State University.Taking part in the conference was the leadership of the University, the scientists and experts from Pridnestrovie and Moldova. The Foreign Ministry was presented by Deputy Foreign Minister of the PMR Igor Shornikov.Rector of T.G. Shevchenko Vyacheslav Stepanov read out a welcoming address of the President of the PMR to the event participants. It, in particular, says: “The establishment of the MASSR is of great importance for modern Pridnestrovie. From this point that the development of the full-fledged statehood on the Dniester began. At the turn of the 80-90s of the last century at a time when the Pridnestrovian people had to fight for the preservation of their human dignity and civil rights, memory of the Moldovan autonomy with Tiraspol as its capital enabled to find the right way. The Pridnestrovian people defended their right to decide their destiny by themselves and be masters of their own fate. Continuing the traditions of the senior generations Pridnestrovie is firmly on the way to independence building stable and strong state.” During the conference Igor Shornikov conveyed greetings on behalf of the leadership of the Foreign Ministry of the PMR, expressed the gratitude to the Pridnestrovian State University for attentive approach to phenomena of decisive importance to study state-building on the territory of modern Pridnestrovie. “The MASSR was created by the leadership of the Soviet Union and party driven by the foreign policy demand. The initiative itself was top-down, from party bodies and was not based on the outcomes of the expression of people's will. Contemporary Pridnestrovie, and this is a main difference, was based on its inhabitants' will”. The most democratic principle – referendum - became the basis of all key decisions. The initiative on creation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic came from the people. The idea of modern Pridnestrovian statehood emerged during people's gatherings and congresses, but not in the offices of party leaders. Our republic was established to live, it was not intended as an example of “right” Moldovan statehood,” – noted the Diplomat. Welcoming remarks also were made by the honoured guest of the conference Lukeria Repida, coeval with the MASSR and the graduate of the first graduation of the T. G. Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences. Those present could learn firsthand about the life in the Moldovan autonomy and about those historical events that Lukeria Repida had withnessed. Then the scientists and experts from Pridnestrovie and Moldova presented their reports.
