Deputy Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev gave an interview to Swiss television and radio broadcasting company Rundschau. The journalists were interested in the current situation in Pridnestrovie, foreign policy priorities of the republic, and prospects of development of the Moldo-pridnestrovian relations.
During the interview Vitaly Ignatiev emphasized that the strategic course of the Pridnestrovian State was and remains rapprochement with Russia. “The full-scale entering into the Eurasian Space, the core of which is Russia; its powerful geostrategic, social and economic, cultural, and historic potential is the main objective and the principal priority for us,” – noted the Diplomat. Deputy Foreign Minister also reminded that Pridnestrovie's course was determined by its people on the referendum in 2006 in which more than 97% of the Pridnestrovian people voted for the independence and the subsequent integration into Russia.
Vitaly Ignatiev noted that Pridnestrovie welcomed the outcome of Crimea's referendum and the decision by the Russian Federation on the accession of new constituent entities. “Russia once again reaffirmed its high status and the authority of the Power which takes care of its citizens living abroad, of its compatriots – it is clear from the example of Crimea,”- said the Diplomat. In this regard, he reminded that the Pridnestrovian people are also Russia's compatriots; about 200,000 citizens of the Russian Federation live in the republic.
Concerning the question about development of the dialogue between Pridnestrovie and Moldova, Vitaly Ignatiev expressed confidence that in spite of existing disagreements over a whole range of issues, the interaction between the parties would develop in a constructive manner.
