The Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic is very encouraged by a decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin “On the recognition of the Republic of Crimea”, as well as the address by the Russian leader dedicated to the accession of two new constituent entities to the Russian Federation: the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The return of Crimea to Russia is a highly just decision based on consolidated position of the people of Crimea and of all Russians.
In recent years in international relations the right of peoples to self-determination reliably becomes an effective principle of building a just and safe world. Pridnestrovie observed with particular attention the process of the Crimean people's self-organization. Tiraspol rejoiced sincerely when the people of Crimea and Sevastopol had an opportunity to express their will. During these critical days it is difficult to overestimate the assistance of the Russian Federation which guaranteed civil peace and stability on the peninsula, and prevented the very possibility of escalation of violence in the multinational region.
Pridnestrovie went through all stages of the people's self-organization in the fight for the rights and for the building new statehood in the period of collapse of the Soviet Union. The Pridnestrovians were forced to defend their Republic with arms at hands, the right to sovereignty, the right to speak their own language. As a result of military aggression of the Republic of Moldova more than 800 Pridnestrovian people died, half of which were civilian population. At that time, two decades ago, it was Russia that was able to return peace to the banks of the Dniester River. Throughout all time the Russian military men have been providing the only safety guarantee for the Pridnestrovian people.
The Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic warmly welcomes the freely expressed democratic will of people of Crimea. The decision to reunite with Russia is historically justified and fully meets people's aspirations. We are convinced it is the will of people that should underlie democracy and power, because then the most important decisions are not only equitable, but long-term!
We are pleased to note that the result in Crimea's referendum corresponds exactly with the result in Pridnestrovian's referendum of September 17, 2006. At that time more than 97 percent of voters supported the independence followed by the Pridnestrovian's free accession to Russia; more than 78 percent of voters took part in the voting. Such clear coincidence of the will of Crimean and Pridnestrovian people shows that Russian World revives and people's wish for unity will not be inhibited.
