Today, Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the PMR for International Cooperation, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nina Shtanski gave an interview to the Belarusian TV channel “Stolichnoye Televidenie” (“STV”).
The interlocutors paid special attention to the process of settlement of relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. The head of the foreign office of Pridnestrovie noted the urgent need to solve the problems of socio-economic nature, such as freedom of movement, lack of proper transportation, and blocking of the telephone services between the two countries. “It is impossible to build trust without having learned to achieve agreement on major issues which are understood by people. We should learn to reach agreements and we should learn to fulfill them,” the diplomat stressed.
Nina Shtanski expressed concern with the decrease of trade and economic ties with the Republic of Belarus, which was the result of economic blockade, which Pridnestrovie has been facing since 2006. Despite the difficulties, the interest in expanding areas of cooperation between the republics is based on close historical ties. “Belarus is famous for production of great vehicles and equipment needed in Pridnestrovie. In turn, many agricultural and manufactured goods produced in Pridnestrovie are in demand in Belarus,” Nina Shtanski noted.
The interlocutors also discussed prospects of Eurasian integration of Belarus and Pridnestrovie. The diplomat told about the launch of a number of projects, one of which is the “Eurasian region “Pridnestrovie”. This initiative is currently being discussed in the framework of meetings of Public-Expert Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR.
