Congratulations by Dmitry Rogozin to the Pridnestrovian People on the Occasion of the 22nd Anniversary of Foundation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic

On this day, I address my compatriots and people of Pridnestrovie with great pleasure. 22 years ago very important and significant events, not only for your region, but for the whole big country took place. These events are connected with the fact that Pridnestrovian nation proclaimed its independence, not from the big country, but on the contrary – it voiced its word of loyalty to preservation of a big Soviet country.
Everything what happened afterwards with this big country doesn't cast shadow on the Pridnestrovian people because Pridnestrovians told that they are patriots of the big Fatherland, and they have been patriots all these 22 years. There is no Soviet Union any more but Pridnestrovie stays. Therefore many of those who understand that drama of collapse of the Soviet Union was a man-made process also understand, what you and your relatives made at that time. You defended your honour, your right to treat yourself with respect, treat your small Motherland with respect – and this is what big Motherland emerges from.
Perhaps, what people of Pridnestrovie made 22 years ago, our children will have to make in the future because today we should think about big country: about Common Economic Space, about Customs Union, about Collective Security Treaty Organization. Our huge Eurasian world is destined to be together. Therefore division into national flats has no serious long-term perspective from historic viewpoint. I cordially congratulate you exactly on what you succeeded to do at that moment.
We need to convert what was 22 years ago in Pridnestrovie into peaceful life, in the absence of any signs of aggression against Pridnestrovian Republic, into creative soil so that new conditions would emerge when economy would develop, and ties with Russia would increase, and respect on the part of its neighbors would strengthen, and negotiation processes would bring their results from the viewpoint of stability of state institutions, health and safety of people.
In coming days we are waiting for Chairperson of the Government of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Filat to come to Moscow. I hope that issue of the Pridnestrovian settlement will be raised and discussed to the utmost since Russian government doesn't remove its finger from the pulse, which life of Pridnestrovie is notable for today. We hope that visit by the Head of the Moldovan government  will give us new hopes for strengthening of peace on both banks of the Dniester, and in doing so we will acknowledge correctness of the steps taken at that time. In those difficult years when many were afraid to express their position you expressed yours to the fullest extent – that is why we express you respect and honour. My congratulations!
