Any attempts to change format of the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie are inopportune and totally unacceptable. This was today stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of the PMR and member of the Joint Control Commission Vitaly Ignatiev at the meeting of international expert round table “20 Years of Russian Peacekeeping Mission on the Dniester and Topical Aspects of Pridnestrovian Settlement”. The diplomat stressed particular role of Russia in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
“Balanced political position of the Russian Federation in combination with highly professional command of the Russian military contingent of Joint Peacekeeping Forces and Operative Group of Russian Forces (OGRV) which have made no serious lapses and faults throughout all these years being in special circumstances of years-long close, jealous and biased monitoring on the part of the OSCE, USA, several Western countries is an essential key to success of the operation on maintaining peace on the Dniester,” Vitaly Ignatiev noted.
At the same time, as he told, despite the presence of a number of fundamental principles supporting stability in the region, “today the peacekeeping operation more than ever needs every possible support and consolidation”.
According to Vitaly Ignatiev, it is connected with the fact that “new geopolitical challenges and political processes taking place in the Moldova-Pridnestrovie region make the task on adapting the peacekeeping mechanism for development of “immunity” against new latent, illegitimate, lying behind legal and moral framework and having no clear and reasonable justification attempts to gradually undermine foundations of current operation excessively topical”.
“Pridnestrovie proceeds from the fact that in conditions when the conflict is far from its finalization and its international-political superstructure has only general outlines, any attempts to wash out foundations in the form of the peacekeeping operation are inopportune and totally unacceptable since they destroy conditions for carrying out a political dialogue and gradual normalization of bilateral relations,” Deputy Foreign Minister of the PMR stressed.
Let us recall that the day before President of Moldova Nikolai Timofti during the meeting with OSCE General Secretary Lamberto Zannier spoke in favour of transformation of current peacekeeping mission into civilian mission under international mandate having stated that “presence of armed people on the Dniester is useless and even dangerous”.
International expert round table “20 Years of Russian Peacekeeping Mission on the Dniester and Topical Aspects of Pridnestrovian Settlement” took place on July 19, in Moscow. Event was organized by Russian non-governmental organization “Institute of Russian Abroad”.
