On May 28, 2012, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR hosted the meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev with head of the United Nations Working Group on discrimination against women in law and in practice Kamala Chandrakirana and member of the Working Group Eleonora Zieliñska. This group works in Pridnestrovie as part of activity of United Nations Senior Expert for Human Rights to Pridnestrovie Thomas Hammarberg.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the PMR on social issues Natalia Nikiforova, Minister of Justice Alexander Deli, Human Rights Commissioner in the PMR Vasily Kalko, first deputy Minister of Education in the sphere of education and science Andrey Krivenko, and Deputy Prosecutor of the PMR Ekaterina Lysenko.
In the course of the conversation, the sides discussed a wide range of issues existing in the field of suppression of discrimination of rights of men and women. Guests were interested in the mechanism and system of work of state authorities, nongovernmental organizations and the whole society in general in the given sphere. Interlocutors discussed measures taken by the state to ensure protection of women's rights in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
In the course of the conversation, representatives of Pridnestrovie expressed opinion that the problem of respect for women's rights which is so topical in the world is not an acute problem in Pridnestrovie – moreover, in separate cases women are legislatively more protected than men.
Vitaly Ignatiev informed about attention on the part of the United Nations Organization towards examination of the situation in Pridnestrovie in the framework of separate programs. “UNO is exactly that universal organization which possesses methodology, extensive experience and responsibility in studying this matter,” Deputy Minister told. “It would be incorrect from political viewpoint to stress the rights of women because in accordance with the Constitution of Pridnestrovie the rights of people are equal regardless gender and age,” Vitaly Ignatiev underlined. The diplomat told that women's organizations played a leading role in Pridnestrovie in the creation and development of the statehood at the end of 80s – beginning of 90s of the previous century.
The Pridnestrovian side reaffirmed its interest in cooperation with agencies of the United Nations
Organization.
Following the results of the group's work, a report with recommendations will be drawn up on the betterment of women's position and liquidation of discrimination. Report will be presented in the UNO and published. In interview with journalists Vitaly Ignatiev told that the Pridnestrovian side would be able to introduce its tentative recommendations and suggestions.
