President of Pridnestrovie Receiving Ambassador of the Slovak Republic

The office of the President Vadim Krasnoselsky of Pridnestrovie hosted a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to Moldova, Ivan Pavol. The PMR Foreign Minister, Vitaly Ignatiev, also attended the meeting.

Ivan Pavol has been heading the Slovak Embassy in Moldova since spring 2022. He has already visited Pridnestrovie. This is his first meeting with the President of Pridnestrovie. Welcoming the guest, Vadim Krasnoselsky noted the functional nature of the long-standing Pridnestrovian-Slovak cooperation in various areas, and mentioned Slovakia’s productive participation in the operation of the Permanent Conference. In particular, he spoke told about the period of Slovakia’s 2019 OSCE Chairmanship. Vadim Krasnoselsky recalled that the contemporary Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak had visited Pridnestrovie several times and actively participated in building up the negotiation process, sticking to neutrality. The PMR President considers the 5+2 meeting held in the year of the Slovak Chairmanship as an important achievement, even though the final document was not signed. Vadim Krasnoselsky said that Slovakia’s role, as the EU member, remains important. He noted that he was interested in the opinion of the country represented by Ivan Pavol on a wide range of issues.

In turn, the Slovak diplomat said that he was open to dialogue and willing to discuss various topics. It was decided to pay special attention to bilateral Pridnestrovian-Slovak contacts in the economy, culture and education. Ivan Pavol drew attention to the intense foreign trade activity between Pridnestrovie and Slovakia, mentioning such economic agents as Moldova Steel Works and KVINT. At the same time, the guest was satisfied that the Pridnestrovian market has goods manufactured in Slovakia. Tourism was also mentioned among the areas of promising cooperation between the two republics. The Ambassador mentioned meetings with the Pridnestrovian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Pridnestrovian State University. Ivan Pavol informed Vadim Krasnoselsky about a grant allocated for the construction of a sports facility in a Pridnestrovian village, as well as about the plans to provide grant funds next year.

The diplomat told about the new parliament and government formed in Slovakia, as well as about the upcoming presidential election. At the same time, he stressed the Slovak steadfast position with regard to the aspiration to settle the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian conflict exclusively through diplomatic instruments, taking into account the interests of both sides. “We are against the removal or dissolution of the negotiation process,” Ivan Pavol outlined, expressing hope for the resumption of a direct dialogue between Tiraspol and Chisinau. The Ambassador suggested particular proposals for discussion.
