PMR President Meets with Latvian Ambassador

10/24/23

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Moldova arrived in Pridnestrovie. It was a familiarization visit. Edgars Bondars was appointed head of the Latvian Embassy in Moldova in September this year. Today, the diplomat was received by PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky. The meeting took place in the office of the Pridnestrovian head of state. The PMR Foreign Minister, Vitaly Ignatiev, also attended the meeting.

Interlocutors expressed a mutual intention to charge the dialogue with practical content, stressing the importance of obtaining up-to-date and reliable first-hand information. The Latvian diplomat noted that he had previously monitored the situation in the region, but due to his current official duties he would study it in depth and in detail.

Vadim Krasnoselsky dwelt on significant aspects of the republic’s vital activities, mentioning the geopolitical unrest and its impact on the life of Pridnestrovians. He focused on the difficulties with imports and the markedly declining exports, recalling that the Pridnestrovian economy is oriented to foreign markets. He spoke about relations with Moldova, noting that the negotiation process is now more of an imitation. The PMR President recalled that the Permanent Conference in the approved 5+2 format had not convened for a long time and consequently there had been no advances in dialogue. “As President, I am interested in practical solution to pressing issues for Pridnestrovians,” Vadim Krasnoselsky said. He noted that there are various negotiation venues that should be used to achieve fundamental goals and deal with current problems. The Pridnestrovian head of state stressed that ensuring peace and security of citizens remains the main issue on the agenda.

The participants of the meeting paid attention to both political and economic aspects, and outlined areas of potential cooperation.
