08/30/23

Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev addressed the participants of the XX Conference of European-American Young Leaders. The event took place in the small hall of the Republic’s Palace.

This conference is organized annually by Global Bridges, a German organization founded to form and maintain ties between countries, cultures, young leaders and managers. This year’s conference brings together around 40 participants from Germany, Austria, the UK, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Turkey and other countries specializing in politics, business, science and media.

The participants were interested in a wide range of issues, including the current state and prospects of the negotiation process with the Republic of Moldova, foreign policy vectors of the PMR, challenging aspects of the republic’s life in the current regional context, etc.

Speaking about the relations with Moldova, Vitaly Ignatiev characterized them as having a deep history of diplomatic efforts. At the same time, he claimed that in recent years, the settlement process has been experiencing a period of stagnation and degradation due to Moldova’s blocking of dialogue mechanisms, evasion from fulfilling earlier undertaken commitments, intensification of complex pressure measures on Pridnestrovie in the sphere of economy, trade, freedom of movement, criminal prosecution of the PMR officials and residents. Separately, the Minister expressed concern about active militarization of the neighboring state, calling it a contribution to escalation rather than peaceful resolution of the Moldova-Pridnestrovie conflict.

Talking to the experts, the Foreign Minister also focused on the historical, political and legal background for the establishment of the Pridnestrovian state, the referendums on Pridnestrovian independence and identity. In addition, he touched upon some aspects related to the peacekeeping mission on the Dniester and shared his vision of Pridnestrovie’s future.
