09/08/20

The site of the PMR President's Administration attended the working meeting of the Pridnestrovian Head of State with the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Moldova. In addition to Vadim Krasnoselsky and Derek Hogan the meeting also joined the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev, Adviser to the President of the PMR on Foreign Policy, Ambassador-at-Large with the rank of Deputy Minister Ruslan Slobodeniuk, alike the head of the Department of Political Affairs of the US Embassy in the Republic of Moldova Anna Colman-Honn and Economic Counselor at the American Embassy Anna Margolis.

Welcoming the guests, Vadim Krasnoselsky stressed that he appreciates the interest of the American side to advance the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. The Pridnestrovian President noted that it is not the first time that the United States participates in the resolution of conflict situations. As an example, Vadim Krasnoselsky mentioned signing the cooperation agreement between Serbia and Kosovo with American mediation, recalling that these two states are successfully interacting in such areas as telecommunications, trade, taxation, and banking. All these aspects are relevant within the relationship between Pridnestrovie and Moldova, Vadim Krasnoselsky stressed. He recalled the negotiation process stagnation, Moldovan side’s failure to comply with the reached agreements, Moldova's unilateral withdrawal from vehicle registration points (obtaining neutral number plates) fuctioning, libel cases against the Pridnestrovian side (for example, on topics related to the pandemic). The PMR President stressed that, despite the desire to find a compromise that the Head of the Moldovan State demonstrates, in practice there is no progress in the negotiations today. Vadim Krasnoselsky asked the American ambassador's opinion on the reasons of current situation and on who or what is the force opposing the negotiation process.

Derek Hogan, in turn, noted that the issues raised are complex in nature and expressed his readiness to share his vision on each item on the agenda. The diplomat considers the pandemic being one of the reasons for the slowdown in the negotiation process. Speaking about this global problem, Derek Hogan was interested in how anti-coronavirus activity is organized in Pridnestrovie. As for the rumors that the Pridnestrovian side allegedly creates obstacles for teachers and students to reach the Moldovan schools located in Pridnestrovie with teaching based on Latin script, the American ambassador confirmed that he got personally convinced there were no such facts. They also talked about coronavirus posts. The American guest noted he welcomes a gradual reduction in their number and asked about the prospects to completely remove this issue. Vadim Krasnoselsky explained that creating COVID posts is a forced measure bearing an exclusively humanitarian nature and aimed at preventing the virus import. As soon as the epidemiological situation in both republics stabilizes, the remaining coronavirus posts will be removed, Vadim Krasnoselsky assured.

The interlocutors discussed in detail the issues of concern to the parties, having agreed to continue the working dialogue.
