President of Pridnestrovie Yevgeny Shevchuk received Head of the European Union Delegation in Moldova Pirkka Tapiola. The meeting was also attended by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev.

There was an exchange of views on topical issues of bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and economic sphere. This, in particular, was about the access of Pridnestrovian goods to the European market. The head of state stressed the importance of the compromise found in trade issues between Pridnestrovie and the EU after 31 December 2015. “This is a major achievement in the framework of bilateral cooperation. The European market is important for Pridnestrovian economic agents, especially in the context of regional economic crisis - said Yevgeny Shevchuk. - We are interested in expanding trade with all our neighbours. Any economy needs to have more opportunities for trade with the world and with the markets, which are in close proximity and which are traditional.”

Particular attention during the meeting was paid to the issues related to customs duties on raw materials, imported by Pridnestrovian economic agents. The Head of European Union Delegation in Moldova informed the President of Pridnestrovie about the efforts made by the European side to resolve a number of the problems existing in this area.

Yevgeny Shevchuk and Pirkka Tapiola separately focused on matters related to the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova.
