Pridnestrovie “Votes for” Preservation of the Presence of Russian Peacekeepers

The next part of the interview of the President of the PMR Yevgeny Shevchuk shown by RBC-TV was named “Pridnestrovie “Votes for” Preservation of the Presence of Russian Peacekeepers”. Here the Head of State in particular noted the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie is one of the most successful in the world. “Hypothetical withdrawal of the peacekeeping forces of the RF will mean that Pridnestrovie will be standing face to face with the Republic of Moldova in conditions of conflict. If we recall that since 1992 Moldova has been supported by Romania not only by word of mouth, on the new stage it is complicated to predict the results of the given scenario,” the President of Pridnestrovie said.

According to Yevgeny Shevchuk, “dismantling of the peacekeeping operation or appeals to its' dismantling before the completion of all negotiations, before definition of political status, mean factual creation of prerequisites for the beginning of military operations.” “Certain aggressive circles in Moldova have an intention to solve the “Pridnestrovian problem” rapidly,” the Head of State noticed. At the same time he told, that Russian citizens living in Pridnestrovie and Pridnestrovian people on the whole advocated the preservation of the presence of Russian group of troops on the banks of the Dniester. “If someone tries to withdraw Russian troops from Pridnestrovie due to some unintelligible circumstances, Pridnestrovian and Russian peacekeepers who will stand for the interests of their States will remain in the Security Zone,” Yevgeny Shevchuk emphasized.
