Moldova's unreadiness for responsible political activity should not prevent Tiraspol from achieving its goals in the sphere of foreign policy. This statement was made by PMR President Igor Smirnov in his speech at the enlarged Collegium of PMR MFA.

As the head of the state noted, Kishinev continues the policy of pressure measures aimed at inclining Tiraspol to accept Kishinev terms about the settlement on the Dniester. Besides, the Moldovan side in fact blocks the activity of the working groups created last year, regardless the agreements achieved by the sides. “Unfortunately, even after meeting with the President of Moldova in April and December of 2008 and after signing the Joint Statement by the Presidents of Russia, Moldova, and Pridnestrovie on March, 18, 2009 no work of expert groups of the sides on specific issues in the sphere of economy, traffic, environmental and other spheres, far from politics, is carried on,” said the President.

Speaking about the perspectives of the political settlement he noted that recent manifestations in the capital of Moldova “confirmed the wisdom and rightness of Pridnestrovien nation, which has created its own statehood.” “The events of April in Kishinev illustrated to the world community, guarantors, and mediators of the Moldova-Pridnestrovie settlement a true direction of the national and ideological vector of present-day Moldova, having all chances to become an international political vector of the Moldovan state in the nearest future,” marked Igor Smirnov.

At the same time, according to the President, the current situation should not prevent Tiraspol from implementing those strategic goals which were set in accordance with the results of the Referendum in 2006. “According to the will of the people it is necessary to carry on the consistent diplomatic work with Moldova aimed at establishing good-neighbourhood between our states, at strengthening stability and security in this region of Europe,” told Igor Smirnov in his speech to diplomats. As the president told, because of its history, strategic position and human potential, “Pridnestrovie has a right to claim a worthy place in the modern system of international relations.”
