Statement of the Press Service of the Pridnestrovian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Agricultural Land Use in Dubossary District of the PMR

Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR was surprised to read information presented on a number of Moldovan information resources (“Publika”, “Omega” and others) that the representatives on political issues of Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova allegedly “agreed some principles of the work of Dubossary's farmers” preliminarily at the meeting held in Tiraspol on October 6, 2014. Based on the information provided by these information portals of the Republic of Moldova, among these principles there is “a refusal to contest the right to property and to charge any payments on these farmers on what Tiraspol has still insisted”.

In this regard, the Press Service of the MFA of the PMR states that the spread information is not true. The issue on land use in Dubossary District of the PMR was indeed discussed at the past meeting. The Pridnestrovian side again called on Moldova's representatives to shun discussion on conflict issue of the ownership of land plots in Dubossary District of Pridnestrovie, because the legislation of the republic does not provide for the private ownership of land. These lands are on the balance sheet of the State Reserve Fund of the PMR and are managed by the State administration of Dubossary District of the PMR. However, that initiative was not again supported by the Moldovan side.

In addition, the representatives of the Republic of Moldova refused to recognize the need for making payments by Moldovan farmers for land plots use, however the Pridnestrovian side did not withdraw its claim and has no intention to do it.

It should be noted that during the meeting contrary to unfair interpretations of some Moldovan media, probably, deluded by “inside information” of one of the negotiators, no specific  arrangements in that field, including agreements on some “principles” or “rules”, were reached.

The Pridnestrovian side continues to proceed from the need for concluding lease agreements (agreements on land use conditions) by all farmers, including from the Republic of Moldova, who have intention to cultivate agricultural lands in Dubossary District of the Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic.

Detailed information on the situation in the use of land in Dubossary District of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic is available on the website of the MFA of the PMR.
