Meeting with the British Ambassador to Moldova Philip David Batson

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the meeting between Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the PMR for International Cooperation, Foreign Minister Nina Shtanski and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UK to the Republic of Moldova Philip David Batson. The Ambassador was accompanied by Desk Officer for Moldova of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of Great Britain Stephanie E. Illingworth.

The Minister highly appreciated the current level of the Pridnestrovian- British cooperation noting the initiatives of the Embassy of Great Britain in the areas of health, culture and sports. “Over the past years we have conducted a constructive dialogue. During this period a number of important joint projects was carried out,” – emphasized the Minister.

The Ambassador spoke about the planned for the near future projects in humanitarian and educational areas and expressed hope that young people from Pridnestrovie would be able to take part in them.

Nina Shtanski stressed the importance for Pridnestrovie of the support of the international community in addressing such acute problem as fighting against tuberculosis. She reminded that in 2013 the British side provided assistance in that area. And she also said that the cooperation on that issue with the international organizations will continue. In his turn, the Ambassador expressed willingness of the British Embassy to assist in this line of work.

During the meeting the sides touched upon some aspects of the current situation in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. Nina Shtanski highly appreciated the attention that the British Embassy paid to the problems which the Pridnestrovian side faced in that context.
