The Third Visit by Thomas Hammarberg Has Begun

Today the meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Nina Shtanski with UN Special Representative for Human Rights in Pridnestrovie Thomas Hammarberg took place. This is the third final visit by Thomas Hammarberg to Pridnestrovie.

Let us recall that earlier UN Special Representative visited Pridnestrovie twice with the aim to examine state of affairs in the dimension of human rights. As it is expected, following the results of the three visits Thomas Hammarberg will submit his recommendations on how to improve general situation in this sphere.

In the course of today's meeting, the Minister marked that detailed analysis of state of human rights in Pridnestrovie provided by Thomas Hammarberg during his previous meetings with civil society representatives, mass media and young diplomats received positive response among the public of Pridnestrovie. “Those evaluations, remarks, recommendations which You were giving during Your previous visits showed impartiality and objectivity,” she added.

Nina Shtanski considers that under conditions of unresolved conflict between Pridnestrovie and Moldova, there are several key aspects to be regarded in the sphere of human rights. “Many problems are connected with socio-economic situation and a number of them – with insufficiency of the level of cooperation between Moldova and Pridnestrovie,” the diplomat marked. “Recommendations of UN Special Representative for Human Rights in Pridnestrovie can become a small brick in the foundation of the atmosphere of trust that we build with Moldova,” Nina Shtanski concluded.

According to Thomas Hammarberg, his third visit will last about 4-5 days.
