On Meeting of Expert (Working) Groups on Economic Issues

On November 1, 2019 the OSCE Mission Office in Tiraspol hosted an expanded format meeting of Expert (Working) Groups on Economic Issues initiated by the Pridnestrovian side.

At the meeting, the experts of the sides initialed the Protocol Decision on Cooperation for Elimination of Trade and Consumer Technical Barriers. The agreement is expected to be signed by political representatives in the near future.

At the same time, the sides discussed in detail import of different goods in Pridnestrovie in the context of the so-called “second phase” of the joint customs and border control at the Kuchurgan checkpoint arranged by Moldova and Ukraine. The meeting stated a certain progress in coordination of the mechanism for importing seeds and planting material. Along with that, the Pridnestrovian side paid attention to a significant number of imported goods categories, including medicines, which remain unsettled.

In the course of the meeting, the experts touched upon freight railway issues, purchase of particular excisable goods, export of non-ferrous metals from Pridnestrovie. 

The sides discussed the current issues relevant to some companies within their foreign economy activity and also agreed to continue work on reducing administrative and other barriers in the interests of international trade.

The discussion of economic agenda aspects is expected to be continued by the expert (working) groups at the CBM Conference in Bavaria.
